April In-House Comps
Friday 29th March.
The academy is teeming with students and models, ready for a jam-packed day ahead.
It’s in-house competition day.
Twice a year, the academy holds its highly-anticipated in-house competition. The day consists of a number of hairdressing, barbering and makeup categories, which students compete in. The event is an opportunity for students to showcase their skills, letting their creative juices flow. It also enables the hair and beauty industries to see the talent that will be entering the field and provide feedback to students.
With categories ranging from avant-garde, to editorial makeup, to creative day wear, by the end of the afternoon there was an array of coloured and complex hairstyles, alongside models with bold and daring makeup looks.
For the judging element of the competition, the academy brought in a selection of industry professionals. This included a representative from MAC Cosmetics (Caitlin), two stylists from Servilles Takapuna (Jessie and Arama), Davines Master Trainer (Virginia) and Head Barber at Barkers Groom Room (Jeremy).
Prize-giving took place at the end of the day in the makeup building. The judges were incredibly impressed by the level of work produced on the day, stating:
“Amazing work from everyone today. The styling, everything. Amazing” – Jessie
“I just wanted to say I’m blown away from the creativity I’ve seen today” – Caitlin
“We’ve seen some amazing talent and had to make some really tough decisions” – Jeremy
Congratulations to all the students who scored themselves top placings and some epic prizes!
The academy would like to take this opportunity to thank the companies who provided products used for prizes: Davines (thanks to Beautiful Environment), Southern Salon Supplies, Total Beauty Supplies, GHD, Killer Groom, Haircare New Zealand and MAC Cosmetics. Also thank you to our guest judges and those who helped make the day the success that it was.
