Featured - Barber Graduate Hux Walker in Headway Magazine
We’ve loved seeing what our bubbly ex barbering student, Hux, has been doing since graduation. Now holding the impressive title of Head Barber at Studio36, he chatted to Headway Magazine about how his career started with Servilles Academy and the most important skills he learnt while studying.
Hakota (Hux) Walker
Head Barber at Studio36
How did your interest in barbering begin?
I’ve worked in customer service for a long time. People skills have always been my strongest asset but I didn’t know where I wanted to go with my career. I became aware of learning barbering through Servilles Academy and knew it would be a job I’d enjoy. As an extrovert, I like talking and I get to do that all day barbering.
As a student at Servilles Academy, what are some of the most important skills you were taught?
Servilles Academy prepared me completely for my entry into the barbershop. I obviously had a lot more to learn and I continue to learn each day, but I felt confident and ready to take on the challenge.
What did you love most about your time there?
Obviously, the teachers are the diamond in the crown when it comes to Servilles. They are all very talented and supportive and made the entire experience really great for me.
Why would you recommend Servilles Academy to others looking to train in your field?
Servilles has a great reputation in the hair industry, so having them on your CV is a great start for your hairdressing or barbering career.
Who are some of the barbers/hairdressers you look up to and admire?
Iggy Tevaga will always be the man. He was my barber tutor at Servilles Academy and I am still yet to meet a barber that has impressed me as much. Every time I am in the barbershop with him, I learn something new and feel re-inspired. He and his brother Mike have started their own barber shop journey opening multiple locations with the Razor Room on Auckland’s North Shore, and they are doing so well.
