Tutor Chanelle curls hair at Servilles Academy

Our People: Chanelle Herewini

Chanelle is part of the academy’s hairdressing team and her role involves tutoring the Salon Support students. Although Chanelle has only been in this position since 2019, the academy environment isn’t all new as she did her training with us, 7 years ago.

From a young age, Chanelle loved doing people’s hair and would often sit down her friends and give them braids. It was her friend that suggested she looked into a career in hairdressing, which to Chanelle was a surprise as she didn’t realise she could make a living from doing the thing she loved. Chanelle says one of the most important lessons she puts forward to her students is throwing themselves in the deep end, admitting that she did just that, enabling her to excel in her studies and the industry a lot quicker than many of her peers.

Chanelle’s favourite thing about hairdressing is the “crazy, out-there stuff”, such as colouring and styling (which she believes is her biggest strength).

When it comes to teaching students, Chanelle connects with them, as she was in their place just some years ago. “I didn’t come from a lot, so I can relate with some students. Juggling home life and study can be hard, but it’s worth it.” Chanelle enjoys creating a fun learning environment for her students, endeavouring to make theory components of the course as interactive and practical as possible.

Chanelle is leading our upcoming Salon Support programme, starting 28th January.

“I’ve never been in a team like this – everyone’s so inspiring and dedicated. Working alongside the people who trained me is really special.”
