Our People: Serena Bond
Serena is new to the Servilles Academy team, having joined us just a few weeks ago. As the Recruitment and Engagement Manager, her role is all about welcoming prospective students and guiding them through their entire journey at Servilles. Serena also oversees the liaison with schools, industry and other agencies, ensuring effective communication and creating relationships with parties outside of the academy.
Serena is the first person students meet when they take a talk and tour of the academy and is there to help with any programme or enrolment issues. With 15 years of teaching experience, she’s able to advise students on the pathways available in the hairdressing, barbering or makeup industries. To Serena, it’s not just about “training students and saying goodbye” – it’s about communicating with them before, during and after completion of their courses.
Having been in the industry for over 30 years, Serena has a vast amount of knowledge about the hairdressing world. She left school to embark on an apprenticeship, where she soon found herself as the salon’s manager. Some years later, Serena altered her career path in order to learn more about the behind the scenes of the industry.
Watching people grow is Serena’s ultimate passion and drive for the role she does. She says, “It’s okay to learn practically and slowly gain the confidence to achieve beyond your expectations”, recommending that even if students are shy or have fear about studying, they should go for it anyway.
