From the sold out Girls in Business event, to a luxury fashion show at the Cordis Auckland Hotel - our makeup students sure have been busy the past few months!
We chatted to them about their highlights of this exciting work experience and what they learnt.
Cordis What Women Want Fashion Show
Jasleen
Was this your first time doing makeup for a fashion show? Tell us what it was like?
“Yes, first time! It was great working on live models and definitely helped grow my confidence.”
What was the backstage atmosphere like?
“I thought it was going to be really stressful, but we coped well, especially with the help and support of Nick (our makeup tutor) who came along too.”
What kind of looks were you creating?
"Glam, with lots of glitter and crazy bold eye shadows!”

Tell us about your experience and how you felt doing makeup backstage?
“It was really busy backstage, it felt just like a movie! I was very nervous at first, but the models were really nice which put me at ease.”
Which aspect of the work experience did you enjoy most?
“The great personalities of the ladies I met!”
What did you learn about doing makeup for fashion shows?
“To trust in yourself and have fun.”

Was this your first time doing makeup for a fashion show? Tell us what it was like?
“It was amazing - great teamwork and Nick kept everything running smoothly.”
What did you find most challenging?
“Working in the tight timeframe. Needed to work at a faster pace!”
Which aspect did you enjoy most?
“Creating beautiful looks, being involved in such an amazing event. Also getting to work alongside my class friends.”
What did you learn about doing makeup for fashion shows?
“Don’t be afraid to pop on lots of colour and be more bold so the makeup stands up on stage.”

Charlotte
What was it like to be part of such a huge event?
“I really enjoyed it, was so much fun!”
What kind of looks were you creating?
“I was touching up lips mostly and people loved all the nude shades.”
Did it teach you anything about the industry or your own skills that you need to work on?
“It was great for improving my communication skills as we had to chat to lots of different people.”
How did you find this work experience valuable for your makeup artist career?
“I was inspired seeing lots of independent and successful women in business!”

“Meeting interesting and influential people.”
What did you find most challenging about it?
“The unexpected influx of people wanting to get their lipstick touched up! Had to learn to be organised and manage my time well!”
What did this work experience teach you about working in the industry?
“That confidence goes a long way!”
