What unique challenges or experiences shaped your time at Servilles Academy?

My journey at Servilles Academy was characterized by a series of distinctive experiences. Firstly, the transition from teaching children to providing hairdressing services to clients marked a significant and transformative change in my career path. Furthermore, as a mature student (where 50 is the new 30!), English being my second language (with Ukrainian as my native language), I encountered additional hurdles. Amidst all this, I was diagnosed with breast cancer between my first and second years of study at the Academy. However, this setback did not deter my determination. During my second year, there were days when I completed my medical treatments in the morning and then dedicated the rest of the day to studying at the Academy. The flexibility and unwavering support from the entire team at Servilles Academy were instrumental in my journey. Their care, encouragement, and love propelled me forward, enabling me to secure my dream job at Servilles hairdressing salon.

How did Servilles Academy's curriculum and specialized training enrich your skill set, opening up a world of diverse career opportunities?

For me, Servilles Academy served as a gateway to the hairdressing industry, and it proved to be the best decision I ever made. With no prior experience in hairdressing and a background in early childhood education, completing the Academy's comprehensive learning program equipped me with the essential tools to become a confident and skilled stylist. The hands-on training offered at the Academy honed my cutting, coloring, and styling abilities while instilling in me a deeper understanding of providing exceptional customer service.

How did the support network established among your fellow students contribute to your training and subsequent career as a hairdresser?

Maintaining connections with my fellow students has been an invaluable source of support, ensuring that I stay on the right track in my hairdressing career.

Could you describe the mentorship and guidance you received from Servilles Academy's talented instructors and how it influenced your professional growth in the industry?

I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have had Nancy, Kellie, and Moana as my mentors throughout my tenure at Servilles Academy. Nancy, in particular, played a pivotal role by suggesting and assisting me in securing my first hairdressing job at Servilles, Takapuna. Initially, I lacked confidence in working at such an esteemed salon, but Nancy's unwavering support bolstered my self-belief and affirmed my abilities and skills. I spent two fruitful years at the Takapuna salon before eventually advancing to the position of a colorist at Servilles, City Works. Additionally, during my second year of study, Kelly and Moana guided me in enhancing my cutting techniques, mastering highlights, and applying color more efficiently. The influence of these three mentors proved invaluable on my path to becoming a skilled stylist, and for that, I am immensely grateful.
