Student Welcome Chats With Paul Serville
It’s such an exciting time when new students join us at Servilles Academy and we’re very lucky to have our founder Paul Serville, visit us regularly and welcome new students who have just started their course.
Mentoring and inspiring young creatives is part of Paul’s DNA and during these chats, he shares his inspiring career journey - back from 1968 when he saved up $2 to visit the country’s best hair salon at the time, through to opening his first Servilles salon in 1984.
He also offers insightful tips on how to succeed in the industry and how to make the most of a Servilles Academy course. “Constantly learning and self communication”, is the recipe for success, says Paul. Along with looking after yourself with good food, exercise and rest while studying at Servilles Academy. Paul wraps up each welcome talk with an open Q&A, where students can ask any questions they have around his hairdressing career, Servilles Academy and of course, advice for starting out as a hairdresser, barber or makeup artist.
Here’s what students had to say about Paul’s chat:
"Paul was so personable and easy to talk to. Being new to the country, I personally found his chat really helpful for learning how things are done in New Zealand and within the industry here." Mehri, Hairdressing Student
"I loved hearing about Paul's career journey and how he started out just like me, an average teenager wanting a career in this industry. He's made the industry really accessible for everyone.” Jessika, Makeup Student
