Barbers You Should Be Following
Once just a routine custom for societal and superficial purposes, the barbering industry has exploded in the last few decades. From festivals, to pop-up events and collaborations with tattoo parlours, barbers can be found on every corner, and their niche yet popular online presence is only growing. If you want to stay in the know with the latest styles, geez at traditional barbershop content, or go on the hunt for your next haircut, we’ve compiled a list of the barbering Instagram accounts you need to be following right now.
Born in California and raised in San Francisco, Julius Arriola (known to most as ‘Julius Cvesar’) is one of the biggest names in the barbering industry today. Starting at just 13 years old, Julius developed the craft throughout his teenage years and was professionally cutting hair by his early 20s, where he then took his talents to the sunny city of Los Angeles. Growing up in the ‘80s, his style has been influenced by the West Coast culture of that time and his family roots – his grandfather in particular. Julius has grown his Instagram following to almost 100k, through his sleek, monochromatic feed and barbering workshops, which he leads in the US and internationally. Follow him at @juliuscaear
Barbers and Brews
Based in the Big Apple (New York), this Redken owned establishment has over 80,000 fans over on the ‘gram. Their feed is teeming with finished cuts, product shots and a variety of videos displaying swish clipper and scissor techniques. If you’re looking for high-quality, classic barbering content, @barbersandbrews is definitely one for the follow list.
Third on our list is Miguel Gutierrez, better known as the Nomad Barber. ‘Nomad’ (meaning a person who wanders place to place) is the perfect term for this jet-setting barber. Miguel travels across the world, learning about different barbering cultures, traditions and techniques, whilst also gathering some truly inspiring content from the places he’s visited. From Cambodia, to Iraq, to London, to South America and everywhere in between, check out Miguel and his travelling trade on Instagram (@nomadbarber) or his YouTube channel.
Here to represent the females in this traditionally male-dominated industry, is Sofie Pok. Sofie has amassed over 351k fans on Instagram, fuelled by her status as an international educator for Babyliss for Barbers Pro Team and her own line of products. With multiple awards under her belt (including Barber of the Year at the American Influencer Awards and Female Barber of the Year at Barbercon), Sofie is killing it in the barbering game right now.
